More to Come

Fall.

The colors, the cooler temperatures, the coziness of sweaters and blankets wrapped around you, fires crackling, a cup of hot cocoa or coffee in hand… this is what dreams are made of.

Even in all of Arkansas’ natural beauty, it’s hard for us to imagine that it gets even better than this. It’s true!

We think we have some pretty fall foliage here, but man oh man, you are missing out if you haven’t been to the Northeast at peak foliage time! Vermont was breathtaking! The reds were the deepest crimson, yellows like they were glowing, the oranges and bright reds looked like they could burst in flames at any second. People could have told me, but I couldn’t have truly imagined it until I saw it in person. Even pictures don’t do it justice. The most beautiful scene was driving the winding, foggy road on Smuggler’s Notch with the golden leaves swirling through the air.

Jesus and the disciples leave the temple. For a while we’ve been studying the rebuke Jesus gave to the Pharisees and Scribes for their unrepentant hearts.

“And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” (Matthew 24:1-3)

The disciples just could not understand. They looked at this enormous and fabulous temple that had been constructed and marveled at its awesomeness. They wanted Jesus to see all of its grandeur. However, Jesus told them all of it would be destroyed. He knew the future. He knew the events that would take place. He knew what heaven was like. But the disciples just couldn’t imagine it.

Isn’t it funny that the disciples really thought they were showing something to Jesus? It’s like saying, “look at these awesome Arkansas fall colors”. And then Jesus says, “let me show you the maples of Vermont”. There was far more to come than their eyes or minds could imagine. But before they could behold the beauty of Heaven, destruction and suffering would come.

They asked, when shall these things be? To them, this was one of the greatest things they had ever seen. But there was more to come, much, much more.

There is a beautiful land waiting for those that believe in Jesus Christ and follow Him, trusting in His work of salvation. It’s hard to imagine now, but there is great joy ahead.

We don’t have to know exactly when, but we need to be ready for that day. Are you where you need to be for Jesus’ return?

Today is the day to respond to His call. You cannot imagine the joy that lies ahead!
