Let Him Finish Our Story

I’ve always said my husband should have been the reporter, not me. He loves to ask questions. In fact, I’ll be sharing a story with him and he will jump in and start asking questions. I have to say, “If you’ll wait just a minute, I’ll get to that part.” He loves to try to figure out what’s going to happen before I get to share it.

As we finish out chapter 16 in Matthew, we see something similar happening.

“Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.” (Matthew 16:28)

Some might stop there and start asking questions like, “Who will see it? Who are these that He speaks of? And what kingdom? Does that mean Jesus will die soon? Or is this talking about the future resurrection?”

And to all of those things, it’s almost like the Word itself is saying, “If you’ll just wait a minute, I’m getting to that. Let me finish my story.”

Let’s look at chapter 17.

“And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.” (Matthew 17:1-3)

Our questions are answered. Peter, James and John were able to see Jesus, the Son of man, as He will be in His kingdom, in all His glory. He was transfigured, or changed into a new form, with a light as bright as the sun and his clothing as if itself were light. And with Him, saints that had passed before, Moses and Elijah.

The answers were right there, we just had to wait for them. Isn’t that how it seems to work with us sometimes? We start questioning the Lord about what’s in the future, why something has happened, what we’re supposed to do, and so on, but all the while, it’s like He’s saying, “If you’ll let me finish, you’ll know.”

My impatient and anxious heart can get the best of me, how about you? Lord, we know you have great things in store for us. We know you are in control of all things and no matter what happens, even if it hurts, you will use these things for your purpose and glory. Help us learn to trust you, Lord! Forgive me for interrupting you! My life is yours and I love to watch it unfold! Thank you, Father, that our story isn’t finished yet! Amen!
