My husband and I watched a movie the other night. It was the third movie in the Maze Runner series. A virus had attacked most of the population and nothing could stop it. Researchers were doing all types of tests on those that were immune to try to figure out how to take their antibodies and use it for a cure. But every trial failed.
In an attempt to save his friend, the main character, Thomas, storms the city with his crew and fights off soldier after soldier. Although he was able to save him, others died in the process. It was discovered that his blood was the key to destroying the virus. His blood didn’t slow the virus, but it killed it. A small vial of serum was created using his blood and was considered the cure.
At the end, he’s standing on the beach, looking out over the ocean, and pulls out the vial of serum. And then, it goes to black. You realize, there’s more to come. There is an ending to this part of the story, but it’s not over yet. Questions swirl through your mind – “who will he give it to? Will he keep it and let the rest of the human race die out? How will they mass produce it if all of the cities have been overtaken and destroyed?”
There’s more to come. This is not the end.
As we close the book of Numbers today, we see this is not the end. The Israelites have traveled a long way. God has brought them through some of the hardest trials and low places they have ever experienced. He had provided, protected, corrected, and taught them throughout their journey to the land that was promised for them.
“These are the commandments and the judgments, which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.” (Numbers 36:13)
I can picture the closing scene. There is Moses with Caleb and Joshua by his side, standing at the banks of the Jordan River, looking across with Jericho in sight.
There’s more to come. This isn’t the end.
Our story isn’t over. God continues to work and prepares us for a new day.
There’s still more to come, this is not the end.
