The Light We Needed
1532 Views

I cannot find my toboggans. I did a deep clean and reorganized a few months ago and haven’t seen them since. The other day, the temperatures dropped and I went to grab them out of the drawer I thought I put them in.

Not there.

I headed to the back of the basement, but it was so dark, I couldn’t see a thing. I searched for the light switch, but couldn’t feel it.

It was too dark.

There was no way I would be able to find what I was looking for in the dark.

Finally, my hand connected, and I flipped the switch. Light flooded the room.

It’s amazing what you are able to see with light. Had I gone much further, I would have tripped over two bow cases in the floor.

Moses continues to set up the tabernacle and God gives instructions on lighting the lamps.

“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick. And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the candlestick, as the LORD commanded Moses. And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the pattern which the LORD had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick.” (Numbers 8:1-4)

At first glance, you may think, “Okay, so what?” He lit some lamps so they could see. But it’s so much more than that.

The light in the tabernacle symbolizes God’s presence. The lamps would always burn. The light gave the priests the ability to do the work needed in order to glorify God.

You know, when we talk about light, I find it interesting that this is also the first thing God brought upon the earth. In Genesis 1:3 He said, “Let there be light”. The light was clear proof of His authorship. There was no other source for the light, just Him. God was the light the world needed.

And then man chose sin and caused a separation between him and God. That sin began to corrode and destroy the people and the world in which we live. God knew the world would need a light to show them the way. So, in Genesis 3:15, He told of that coming light.

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

That seed, the child born unto Mary, was Jesus, God’s only son.

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

Jesus was the light the world needed. He was Emmanuel, God with us, just as the light signified so many years before in the tabernacle.

Today, He continues to shine His light through His Holy Spirit, revealing to us which were once in darkness.

Are you searching? Are you looking for answers? Is the darkness overwhelming? Do you need light?

“You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.” (Psalm 18:28)

He will rescue you.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

He will lead and guide you.

“The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)

He will strengthen and protect you.

Jesus is the light this dark world needs.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
