We’ve been studying on Wednesday nights about friends. Some tough questions are asked that really make us search our own hearts. Am I a good friend? Do I have a friend that holds me accountable and encourages me? Do I meet often with that friend?
Friendships are weird sometimes. I mean, Facebook tells me I have 2,717 friends, yet there are days where I feel I only have a few I could run to with my deepest hurts and trials. If I needed help, who would come to my side, without me even asking? Or would they even say “hi” to me in Wal-Mart?
So, as I open my bible this morning to learn more about the judgment from God on the people of Israel, I’m surprised and warmed to read “and the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend” (Exodus 33:11).
Wow! The God of the universe, the Creator of all, the one who put breath in our lungs and blood in our veins. The very same God that did these amazing miracles in Egypt, took time to talk with Moses, one friend to another.
Do you have that kind of relationship with the Lord? I love that old hymn that says “and He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own.” I can picture Jesus and me just slowly strolling through this beautiful garden. The sunlight barely coming through the trees to warm our faces. As we pass the flowers, the roles are reversed and it is the roses that seem to lean in and try to smell His sweet aroma. When he speaks, the birds hush their singing. But yet there is still a beautiful melody that plays in my heart. Oh, the peace, the joy and the rest that I feel in that moment. He takes my hand and leads, I don’t know where we are going, but I will follow.
Did you know that Jesus desires to meet with you every day just like that? He wants a friendship with you, one that is so deep, you can walk and talk and cast all your cares on Him! Why? Because He cares for you! He loves you! If you don’t know Him as your Savior, I pray you do that today. Scripture tells us, He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. Don’t you desire that deep relationship?
And if you are a believer and you are reading this, is your heart longing for that moment with Him? Maybe you remember a time when you did walk closely with Him, but things have changed. He is only one step away. Turn to Him. Our God is waiting. He is ready to meet with you. He calls out to you. He knows your name.
“And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.” (Exodus 33:17)
