Nearly every morning for the past several years, I’ve shared my quiet time through Facebook. I started in Genesis and I realized, for people to have a desire to read something on Facebook, they usually have to feel like they can relate to that person.
So, I use stories from my past, things that happen to me on a daily basis, or something that people feel they can connect with to help drive the point home.
God did the same thing with Pharaoh.
“The Lord answered Moses, ‘See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. You must say whatever I command you; then Aaron your brother must declare it to Pharaoh so that he will let the Israelites go from his land. But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart and multiply My signs and wonders in the land of Egypt. Pharaoh will not listen to you, but I will put My hand on Egypt and bring the divisions of My people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment. The Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I stretch out My hand against Egypt, and bring out the Israelites from among them.” (Exodus 7:1-5)
Look at verse one: “I have made you like God to Pharaoh.” When we first hear that, it’s like, “what”? But, let’s consider who Pharaoh was.
The Egyptians practiced polytheism, in other words, they worshiped many gods. Because of his wealth, power, and pride, the Pharaoh himself believed he was a god and the Egyptians worshiped him.
So, for a man, a Hebrew at that, to come into the palace of the King and demand an audience (who thought he was a god) was laughable.
But God knew this. God knew He had to meet Pharaoh where he was, so God made Moses a god in the eyes of this king. Now Moses would be his peer that he would listen to and not just a lowly Hebrew.
In similar fashion, God knew in order to reach people, He had to help us relate. God came to the earth as a man, Jesus Christ.
Jesus was tempted as we are and never sinned.
Jesus loved with deep compassion.
Jesus sought the Father through prayer.
Jesus showed us by example what it was to surrender our lives for God.
God came to meet us where we are.
God’s here through Jesus Christ by the power of His Holy Spirit and is reaching out His nail-scarred hand saying, “come to me and find rest”.
Will you come?
