Wisdom in the Chaos
407 Views

The world is a mess! Across the globe there are wars, rumors of wars, uncertainty, and unrest. Nations are in disorder. Families are fragmented, divided, and torn apart. People are confused and living with depression, anxiety, and crippling fear. Many will ask, what is a person to do?

Nearly 2,000 years ago, the Apostle Paul wrote, “The days are evil” (Ephesians 5:16). We can all relate. A thousand years before that, King Solomon wrote about evil in the book of Ecclesiastes, reminding us that there is nothing new under the sun. Since the fall of man, this world has been in chaos, and it will continue to be in chaos until the return of King Jesus. Until then, we are called to navigate these perilous times.
As a child of God, I do not walk alone. Jesus said we would have troubles, trials, and tribulation in this life, but we are to have courage, comfort, and good cheer because He has overcome the world (John 16:33). God’s Word assures us that He will never leave us or forsake us. So, we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:6. In the book of James we are reminded that we should consider it joy when faced with various kinds of trials because the testing of our faith produces steadfastness, patience, and endurance. James continues, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” James 1:5. It is when we are going through hard times that we need wisdom the most.

Get wisdom. Get understanding. Forsake it not. Wisdom is the principal thing. How much better is it to get wisdom than gold and to get understanding than silver. These are the truths revealed in God’s Word. His Word also tells us where to get wisdom. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever,” Psalm 111:10. The fear of the Lord is not a fear of terror or dread, but a holy reverence toward the Creator of heaven and earth. Reverential fear of God, respect for His Word, and a desire to do His will leads us down paths of righteousness and helps us walk in this world with godly wisdom.

Mankind needs wisdom from above because the world’s wisdom is, “earthly, sensual, devilish” (James 3:15). The wisdom the world offers produces envy, strife, confusion, and every evil work. “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” James 3:17-18.

If you don’t have peace, call out to the Prince of Peace. If you don’t have wisdom, seek the One who gives wisdom. Jesus is the answer for troubled hearts, broken lives, and chaotic times. If you belong to God, you will have peace in the middle of chaos and you will have wisdom to give when the whole world is seeking answers. May we be the ones that point those without hope to the God of all hope. And may we walk in wisdom toward those outside the faith. “Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.” Daniel 12:3.
