Jesus Christ is the most extraordinary figure in all of human history! His incredible life has impacted history in a way like no one who has ever lived.
I mean, even time itself is divided into BC, (before Christ) and AD, (Anno Domini “in the year of the Lord”—the year Jesus was born)
So why is it so important that you come to know and understand who Jesus is to you?
To understand the significance of Jesus you have to start at the beginning… as in, the beginning of time! When God created mankind, He did so with the intention that man and woman would enjoy an intimate relationship with Him. He provided everything that the first humans would need to live and to thrive in their world, both physically and spiritually.
Man and God lived in total harmony and in close fellowship.
But man decided to break that relationship by disobeying God. And, because man made the choice to sin against God, all that God had created became polluted by a cancer… a cancer called sin.
God is holy. His very DNA is holiness, without sin, without a single flaw. God could never live with man in his sinful, cursed state. There had to be a payment, a sacrifice, made for the sin of man.
It would have to be a perfect, a holy sacrifice. God’s holiness and man’s sinfulness would never be compatible without it. The only way that man and God could have a relationship again was for a payment to be made for man’s sin.
Jesus Christ, the very Son of God himself, became that payment. He came to earth and lived a sinless, perfect life, just like his Father. And then Jesus offered his life as a sacrifice for sin . . . the innocent paying the price of the guilty.
He died for your sin . . . for my sin.
Here’s the truth you need to understand today. Your sin and my sin separate us from the relationship God wants to have with us.
But here’s the good news that Jesus brings . . . his sacrifice has satisfied God’s need to punish the sin in our lives. He died to reestablish our relationship with God. And then, after being in the grave for three days, he rose from the dead, proving once and for all that he truly is God.
So, who is Jesus to you?
He is your sacrifice for your sin.
He is your way to have a relationship with God.
He is your opportunity to experience eternal life!
The Bible says that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that anyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. How does that work in your life?
Well, the Bible says that if you will say out loud that “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you can have eternal life. You place your faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ to pay the price for your sins.
Would you do that today?
