My Priest Ever Pleads for Me
7627 Views

Welcome to the final week of Words of Life: A Lifeword Poetry Series. Each Wednesday in April we’ve shared poetry from some of our gifted writers. We’re so glad you have joined us!

Accused I stand before the Lord,
Adulterous, unfaithful and disobedient.
The enemy says death is my reward, after all it’s what I deserve.
The King would be just to convict me for my crimes, for him it would be expedient.

Shackles and chains were my garments,
Shame and guilt were the jewels with which I was adorned.
My case was closed, my fate was sealed,
My dwelling was with the dead and my place was with those who are abhorred.

But there is One who rushed to my defense,
One whose name is King of Righteousness.
He is a roaring lion and a dying lamb,
With power he conquers death and crushes evil with his innocence.

His body torn so he could tear the veil,
His blood is our entrance into a deeper grace.
His flesh made for us a new and living way,
Sinners washed clean at the gaze of his wondrous face.

So who could accuse me now,
That the Savior is on my side?
Because my priest ever pleads for me,
In his presence and in his freedom I will forever abide.
