Right On Time

“It’s my money and I want it now!”

The infamous words of that commercial ring true for more than just cash. In America, we now live in a society that expects and demands speed.

How many of us want to go back to dial-up Internet?

Can you hear the sounds of it connecting?

How long did we wait while it connected to AOL?

If I send a text and don’t immediately get a response, what goes through my mind? This person is mad at me, they are ignoring me, or they must be dead!

The postal service is called snail mail even though at one time it had to be delivered by horseback.

From our cars to our food, everything has to be fast.

Instant gratification. If it’s not now, it’s not good enough.

We can’t see or imagine the effort, energy or work being done behind the scenes to produce something. An image on your screen, a text to come through, or a letter delivered to your door . . . there’s work being done in the background we never see. We just enjoy the results.

We’ve become not only imperfect, but impatient.

“After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned because of their difficult labor, they cried out, and their cry for help because of the difficult labor ascended to God. God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the Israelites, and God knew.” (Exodus 2:23-25)

Moses was making a life for himself in Midian. He married and had a son, and the Scripture says he was content.

But the Israelites were still in chains. They wanted to be rescued!

How many times had they called out to God to change their circumstances, to liberate them, to bring them out of bondage?

Why didn’t God act as soon as they asked to be free?

You’re probably wondering why He doesn’t act right now. I know we all have fears and worries.

But God doesn’t work on our time. There are things going on behind the scenes we can’t even imagine. While these people wanted immediate action, God was at work, they just couldn’t see it.

Even the Jews reacted in the same way when the Messiah came. They wanted Jesus to rescue them from Roman oppression right then. They wanted His kingdom of peace immediately! But Jesus told them it wasn’t time.

We must wait patiently on the Lord.

In days when we need rescue and don’t think God is listening, remember He is at work. He’s preparing for the perfect moment to bring us out of our troubles. Our ways are not His.

God is not bound by time.

But we can trust in Him because He cares for us. God loves us unconditionally.

While we are imperfect and impatient, God is perfect and patient . . . He’s always right on time.
