Psalm 89:37

When we are struggling, we should be honest with God about what is in our hearts.   #daybydaylw   Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org!   ~~~   Once again, the Selah in Psalm 89, is important. Consider with me the Selah in verse 37. Ethan has rehearsed the grandeurs of God. And one of the features that Ethan has emphasized is the “forever” nature of the covenant and the faithfulness of God. Surely he is meditating on that. Faithful—1,2,5,8,14 Forever—28,36,37,38 But his mind is drawn back down to earth, and as he tries to compare what is going on in his world with who he knows God is, it doesn’t match up to him. This is what he is pondering in verses 38-45. Have you ever been there? You try to align the events and situations of your life with the nature of God and you just can’t seem to make all the pieces fit. Notice the use of “you have” over and over again in this section. Ethan, in this moment, recognizes that nothing happens apart from the will of God. No matter if it is another army who comes and breaks down the walls of city, ultimately, God reigns over all. So Ethan is simply presenting to God what he sees, and he sees brokenness among the people of God and defeat upon the people of God. He does not see any recovery from this situation, and he can’t get it to square with the forever, faithful nature of the covenant of God to His people. And what we have is Ethan being honest with God. God this is what I see. This is what I am experiencing. This is what I know is going on. So what is going on. You need to know that you can be honest with God about what is going on in your heart. There is a difference between being honest and being disrespectful. Honesty will be tolerated. But not disrespect.
