2 Samuel 6:1-4

Restoring biblical worship is an act of great magnitude.   #daybydaylw   Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to!   ~~~   The first four verses of chapter 6 give us our setting, and also begin to hint a little bit at a problem. And as we read, I want us to pick up on a few things that the writer is doing to let us know the bringing back of the ark of the covenant is a huge event. Consider the Number of men 30,000 chosen men. That would be the entire population of Hempstead County, that have traveled to this particular city, in order to escort the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem. It shouldn’t be lost on us, that back in 1 Samuel 4, when the Israelites were in battle with the Philistines, and the two sons of Eli had rashly and foolishly brought out the ark of the covenant and treated it like a rabbit’s foot, that Israel was defeated by the Philistines, and the text says that 30,000 Israelites were killed. So now, 30,000 chosen men have come to carry the ark to Jerusalem, to offer protection for the safe return of the ark, and to lay down their life, if necessary. This is truly a restoration taking place. Can you imagine the parade, how long the line of men must have been as they escorted the ark back to Jerusalem? The number of men lets us know the magnitude of the event, and the event is the restoring of biblical worship. How much more of an event should it be for us to make sure worship of God is at the center of our lives and our churches?
