Scripture
We should pray for God to accomplish His promises toward us. #daybydaylw Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org! ~~~ Notice with me the transition in David’s prayer that takes place in verse 25. David shifts from praising God to making requests of God. And he gets a bit pushy doesn’t he? “Do this God! Do that!” It can feel like an unusual shift from what we just have studied about God’s absolute grace and Lordship in David’s life. But notice what it says at the end of verse 27—“Therefore I have found courage to pray this prayer to you.” We can vouch that this is a courageous prayer, but what is it that made David courageous? Why does he say, “Therefore I have found courage…”? What is it that put courage into David? Well, if we go back through this section of the prayer we will pick up on certain words that are repeated. Notice Vs. 25 “Confirm forever the word that you have spoken…” Vs. 25b ”…do as you have spoken.” Vs. 27 “you have made this revelation to your servant… Vs. 28 “…your words are true and you have promised this good thing to your servant.” Vs. 29 “For you O Lord God, have spoken…” David is simply praying back, pleading with God to fulfill His promises. As Dale Ralph Davis says, “Prayer pleads promises.” Now we have to be careful that we pray the promises that apply to us, and pray them for the right reason—that God’s name would be known and magnified, just like we see in David’s prayer. But here is the point—God loves to see His children banking on His word.
