We can find strength not in ourselves but in the God who made a binding covenant with His people.   #daybyday   Interested in learning more about becoming a devoted follower of Christ? Go to follow.lifeword.org!   ~~~   We ended last week by saying that shifting the blame does not ultimately strengthen us is desperate situations. This is what David’s men were doing in 1 Samuel 30. What does ultimately strengthen us is strengthening ourselves in the LORD—the covenant God of Israel. The reason we should strengthen ourselves in the LORD’s promises is that He makes promises based on His character. And His character is one of truth and honesty. He cannot break a promise, or thus he would be lying by not keeping the promise. He would have said to do something that he did not do. His word is rooted in the strongest possible foundation, and that being Himself. Therefore, we are truly strong when we seek to rely upon His strength. And this is what we need day by day. The reason our strength today can be found in this covenant LORD of Israel centers on Jesus. The LORD bound himself to a promise he made to Israel, in which He promised that He would be their God, He would raise up for them an eternal King, He would provide a Redeemer for the people. That he would remove stony hearts and put in moldable hearts. He promised He would give His Spirit. And God kept all of these promises. He kept the terms of His covenant by providing Jesus, our King, our redeemer, in whom New Life is found, and who sends the Spirit to dwell within believers. When we come to the LORD with are faced with ourselves, with our sin, but in the LORD we are reminded that HE is a forgiving God, and He is not backing away from His promises because HE is a covenantal God. He points us to Himself and says to find our strength in Him!
